Many riding schools and clubs take safety very seriously and insist that wearing the safety gear is a necessary part of riding. Accidents can always happen, as with any sport but with a greater awareness of safety and better modern equipment there are ways of minimising the risk.  If you’re riding cross country under British Eventing rules, or show jumping under Pony Club, or at some affililiated shows, you’ll be required to wear a body protector that adheres to current safety standards in order to compete.
